The Ellis County Commission on Monday will consider approving an agreement with Driggs Design Group for design consulting on the Northwest Business Corridor Project.

The commission will meet at 5 p.m. Monday in the Commission Room in the basement of the Ellis County Administration Center, 718 Main.

The $113,130 agreement with Driggs, 1017 Downing Ave., is for preliminary design work of road improvements northwest of Hays — 230th Avenue north from the US-183 highway bypass and Interstate 70 to Feedlot Road, then east to US-183. That area has seen industrial development through recent years, including Hess Manufacturing and Midwest Energy’s Goodman Energy Center, that has also increased heavy truck traffic.

Also on Monday’s agenda:

• Darin Myers, director of fire and emergency management, will inform the commissioners about the switch to new technology in the Law Enforcement Center’s dispatch center. On May 23, AT&T will be in Hays to upgrade the 911 phone lines to technology allowing more accurate GIS mapping of the caller.

• Commissioners will consider approval of a bid on 8,000 tons of cold mix asphalt. APAC-Kansas, Shears Division of Hays submitted the only bid.

• Commissioners will discuss what direction to give staff regarding a possible county sales tax to help make up a projected shortfall in the county budget.
