A 43-year-old Hays man, Fernando Amezquita, was arrested along U.S. Highway 56, west of Dodge City, for suspected distribution of methamphetamine.
The arrest was made about 1 a.m. Sunday after law enforcement authorities found about six pounds of methamphetamine in his vehicle.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Kansas Highway Patrol, Ford County Sheriff’s Office, Hays Police Department, and Ellis County Sheriff’s Office coordinated efforts to make the arrest.
Besides distribution of methamphetamine, Amezquita was also arrested on three counts of child endangerment, since his three young children were passengers in the vehicle at the time of his arrest.
Amezquita was booked into the Ford County Jail with bond set at $150,000.
The operation was a coordinated law enforcement effort to combat drug violence and reduce the accessibility of illegal drugs impacting western Kansas, according to a press release from the Hays Police Department.
