RUSSELL - The Russell County Sheriff’s Office reported on Friday afternoon that a body recovered Friday morning from Lake Wilson was believed to be that of 26-year-old Engel Rosario, of Lindsborg.

Earlier in the week, Russell County 911 at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday received a call reporting Rosario had went missing at the lake. His kayak was found unattended in the lake near Minooka Park, according to the sheriff’s office.

Emergency responders from fire departments and emergency management with the City of Russell and Russell County participated in a search for the missing man, along with members of the Kansas Highway Patrol, Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism and the Russell County Sheriff's Office.

Emergency personnel recovered a body at 8:35 a.m. Friday. Positive identification was pending an autopsy.

“This is currently an ongoing investigation,” said a post on the sheriff’s department’s Facebook site.

“The constant wind has been a complication this week,” said a post Thursday. “But today it dropped off enough to allow the use of two drones provided by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. I would also like to thank the Red Cross and the Russell Rotary club for taking very good care of all the responders and volunteers.”

Heavy summer rains have flooded areas around the lake and caused some mud sliding, forcing the closing of some camp sites. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reported July 25 that the lake’s elevation was 7.95 feet high, and that releases had been increased to 1,200 cubic feet per second.
