The Hays High tennis team took third place in the HHS Invitational on Thursday at Hays High and the city tennis courts.

Hays High’s No. 1 singles player Lynsie Hansen went 1-2 on the day, winning a tiebreaker over Norton's Shyann Railsback.

The Indians’ No. 1 doubles team of Taylor Deines and Mylah Potter went 1-2 a over Norton’s Makena Basgall and Dylan Hawks.

Victoria’s No. 1 singles player Brooklyn Kuhn and No. 2 singles players Kiara Sweat won their respective titles, helping the Knights take the team championship with 35 points. Scott City was second with 33 points.

Hays High cross country begins season

The Hays High cross country team opened the season in the Great Bend Invitational on Thursday at Lake Barton.

The Indian girls took third as a team. They were led by Landri Dotts' ninth-place finish (18:04). Amelia Yaeger took 14th in 18:20.3.

The HHS boys placed seventh as a team. Brayden Hines was the best Indian finisher, coming in 28th.
