As mid-October approaches, Ellis County Clerk Donna Maskus reminds voters that important dates are coming up in November’s city-county elections.

Voter registration closes Tuesday at the end of the business day, she said.

There are 18 locations in Ellis County at which voters can register. Those can be found at, or by calling the clerk’s office at 785-628-9410.

The locations include the county clerk’s office at 718 Main, as well as city clerk’s offices in Ellis and Victoria; the public libraries in Hays and Ellis; and the driver's license examiner’s office, 1222 Canterbury.

Advance ballots can begin to be mailed on Wednesday. Voters can call Maskus’ office to request a ballot in the mail.

“It can be for general status, which they request a ballot every time they are needing one, or we have the permanent status and that is somebody with a permanent disability. Once they get on the permanent status, we automatically send them a ballot every time they qualify for a ballot in their area,” Maskus said.

In-office early voting will begin Oct. 21 in the county clerk’s office during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Early voting will close at noon on Nov. 4.

The general election is Nov. 5. More information on voting in Ellis County can be found through the county clerk’s office or on the website.
