Hays police believe four men and a woman caught on video at a local grocery store where a stolen bank card was used Monday to purchase more than $4,000 in gift cards and other items are believed to have traveled east.

“We believe they are moving east. There was interaction with them in Junction City and we had tips, some new intelligence to follow,” Lt. Tim Greenwood of the Hays Police Department told The Hays Daily News Wednesday afternoon.

“We don’t believe they are local any more,” he said.

Reports said they were in the Junction City area early Wednesday morning, he said.

In a Facebook post Tuesday, the HPD said that about 8 a.m. Monday, a purse was stolen from a vehicle on Lewis Drive. About 15 minutes later, the victim’s financial card was used to make the purchase at Dillons. The perpetrators were traveling in a black SUV.

The Facebook post includes surveillance photos of the four men and the woman, as well as the vehicle in the parking lot.

Greenwood said anyone with information about the crime should contact the Hays Police Department at 785-625-1011.
