Ellis County Under sheriff Scott Braun has filed to run for sheriff in 2020.

Braun has served as undersheriff since March 2018 and has more than 20 years experience in law enforcement.

A Victoria native, he joined the EllisCounty Sheriff’s Department in 1997 after working in the Ellis Police Department. He was promoted to detective in 2005 and has worked last field operations coordinator and administrative coordinator for the county Drug Enforcement Unit.

He also coordinated the county’s K9 program and became the department’s first canine handler in 1999, later becoming a canine instructor.

He also has instructed officers throughout the state in specialized fields of narcotics courses, including Top Gun and BNIC. He also instructs officers in the use of field test kits, simunitions, GPS installation, search warrant writing, officer tactics, racial profiling/bias and use of force.

He has been recognized for his service, including being named State of Kansas 2006 Deputy Sheriff of the Year and received the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police Gold Award of Valor and the Kansas Highway Patrol Superintendent Meritorious Award in 2001.
