Defendant sentenced for attempted rape

LEAVENWORTH — A Linwood man has been sentenced to more than five years in prison for charges involving the sexual abuse of a child, according to a prosecution official.

Galen Hurt, 77, was sentenced Wednesday in Leavenworth County District Court to 67 months, or five years and seven months, for attempted rape and and aggravated endangering a child.

The crimes occurred May 2018 at Hurt’s residence and involved a 4-year-old child, according to County Attorney Todd Thompson.

Hurt pleaded no contest to the charges in September.

“We are pleased that we were able to reach a resolution that met the approval of the family while also keeping a child victim from having to testify,” Thompson said in a news release.
