Two separate structure fires Wednesday morning in Hays resulted in no injuries but the complete loss of one residence.
The first fire, in the 200 block of West Seventh Street, was reported shortly before 7 a.m. Items left on top of a stove caught on fire, burning the stove and kitchen cabinets, Hays Fire Chief Ryan Hagans told The Hays Daily News.
The second fire was in a trailer park at 1010 Reservation Road reported at about 10 a.m.
“The home and contents were a total loss,” Hagans said, adding the cause is still under investigation.
Ellis County Rural Fire, EMS and the Hays Police Department assisted at both fires.
Hagans reminded residents to have working smoke alarms in their homes. The home on Seventh Street did have a working alarm, Hagans said, but it’s not yet known if the home on Reservation Road did.
