A Victoria man has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault reported in Hays last week.

According to a press release from the Hays Police Department, 31-year-old Cody W. Schultz of Victoria was arrested on suspicion of aggravated criminal sodomy and electronic solicitation. Schultz is currently being held in the Ellis County Jail.

On Dec. 16, the HPD received a report that a juvenile female had been sexually assaulted near Massey Park, 17th and Allen. The assault reportedly occurred at around 6:15 p.m. that day. The victim reported she met a man on social media and agreed to meet him at the park. At the park the man reportedly physically restrained the victim and then sexually assaulted her. The suspect then fled the park. The victim ran from the scene with another female and then called the police.

On Friday, a search warrant was served by the Hays Police Department, Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, the Kansas Bureau of Investigations, and the Victoria Police department at a home in Victoria. Schultz was arrested at that time, according to the press release.
