The date to enroll for the free online ServSafe Food Safety Handler training has been extended to May 31st. The National Restaurant Association Education Foundation stepped up to offer the free training as a response to the crisis that restaurants are faced with concerning COVID-19.


The ServSafeŽ program is a national certification program designed to teach safe handling practices to foodservice employees and others who handle and serve food to the public. Because everyone is concerned about the safety of our family and friends, anyone preparing and serving food in the public setting (restaurants, caterers, health care centers or nursing homes) is encouraged to enroll now. The free offer includes ServSafe Food Handler training and assessment. It does not include food manager training courses. A profile must be set up if the employee does not already have one and then the course “ServSafe Food Handler online course and exam” must be selected and added to the cart. The course is available in English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese. Employees will have one year to launch and complete the course and test.


ServSafe provides training for the food service and restaurant industry to ensure that guests are provided a safe food dining experience. Family and Consumer Science Extension Agents normally offer the class for a charge each year but those classes have been canceled.
