Duane Robert Graeff, 87, Utica, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born April 18, 1930, in Shields to Robert and Alma Reed Graeff.

He retired from U.S. Air Force in 1972, having served in Germany, Vietnam, Alaska, California, Utah, Texas, and Kansas. After retiring from the Air Force, he managed the warehouse for Horton's Furniture and drove a propane truck for Basinger LP Gas. Later in life he collected and recycled metal.

He was a member of the First Christian Church and American Legion, both of Utica, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Lions Club, both of Ransom.

He married Mary Nora. He later married Mary Henry on July 5, 1973, in Wichita.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Christopher Duane Graeff, Ogden, Utah; seven daughters, Terry Gile, Ruth Wise and Sandra Long, all of Wichita, Kathryn Herrman, Utica, Margaret Massey, Richmond, Va., Patsy Rameriz, Lawrence, and Linda Davis, Oskaloosa; two sisters, Betty Whitehurst, Garden City, and Susan Schmidt, Galva; a step-brother, Delbert West, Greeley, Colo.; 35 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Jane Loudermilk and Pamela Grandstaff; three brothers, Darrell, Fred, and Dexter Graeff; a sister, Colleen Fitzwater; three grandchildren, Raymond Buhrle, Melissa and Jessica Jean Grandstaff; and a great-granddaughter, Samantha.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, Utica; burial in Utica Cemetery.

Friends can call from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday with family present from 7 to 8 p.m., both at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City.

Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church, Utica American Legion or American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.
