Mary Ann Rohleder, 86, Hays, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at Hospice House in Hutchinson.
She was born Jan. 10, 1931, in St. Peter to Bernard and Clara (Stremel) Rome. She attended grade school in St. Peter, Sacred Heart High School in Salina, and a 1950 graduate of St. Mary High School in Pittsburg.
She married Leonard Rohleder on April 24, 1951, in St. Peter. They celebrated over 65 years of marriage before he preceded her in death Sept. 10, 2016.
She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Peter until she moved to Hays in 1987 and became a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was a life member of the DAV Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Hays.
She enjoyed crocheting afghans for family and friends, baking and sending brownies home with her family and reading and puzzles.
Survivors include four sons, Steven Rohleder and wife, Linda, WaKeeney, David Rohleder and wife, Susan, St. Peter, Patrick Rohleder and wife, Karla, Collyer, and Michael Rohleder and wife, Ella, Wheatridge, Colo.; three daughters, Clara Unrein and husband, Joe, Kechi, Roberta Rein, El Dorado, and Tamara Poulton, Hutchinson; two sisters, Albertina Wilson and husband, Robert, Arvada, Colo., and Vera Syvertson, Tempe, Ariz.; a half-sister, Martha Rome, Sioux City, Iowa; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; a step-great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Lena; an infant sister,Albertina; a granddaughter, Christy Ann Rohleder; a brother, Charles “Virgil” Rome and wife, Virginia; a brother-in-law, Dave Syvertson, and a son-in-law, Gary Poulton.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 1805 Vine; burial will be at 2 p.m. in Kansas Veterans Cemetery, WaKeeney.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, Hays, KS 67601.
A vigil will be at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, followed by a VFW Auxiliary rosary at 6 p.m., both at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Mary Elizabeth Maternity Home, the Herndon Clinic, or Masses, in care of the funeral home.
