Mary Ann Skolout, 92, Hays, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, at Hays Medical Center.

She was born July 14, 1925, north of Ludel, to Ernest G. and Elizabeth C. (Simminger) Nelson. She was a graduate of Atwood High School.

She married Frank Skolout on May 8, 1946, in Atwood. He preceded her in death. She was a farmwife, mother seamstress and rose and flower gardener.

She enjoyed swimming, needlepoint, latch hook, ceramics, traveling, and reading.

She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella Circle No. 254, and a volunteer for many years at Sternberg Museum and Hays Medical Center.

Survivors include a son, Eugene “Gene” Skolout and wife, Inez, Colby; three daughters, Marilyn Kopriva and husband, Martin, and Pam Luedke and husband, David, all of Atwood, and Jackie Skolout, Hays; a son-in-law, Glenn Hartnett, Palco; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Jeanette Hartnett; a brother, Karl Nelson; and a sister, Rose Miller.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Colby.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

A vigil will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by a Daughters of Isabella rosary at 10:30 a.m., both at the church. Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart School, Colby in care of Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, Hays, KS 67601.
