Frances “Fran” Rome Glimes, 97, Victoria, died Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Hays Medical Center.

She was born in St. Peter to Michael and Katherine Rome.

She came of age in the Dust Bowl and the Depression. As many of her age she moved to a big city seeking opportunity. She started as a housekeeper on the Gold Coast of Chicago. When the U.S. sent most able-bodied men abroad to fight in World War II she became a worker on a B-52 flight line.

She was a member of the St. Fidelis Parish, Daughters of Isabella, Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. In 2008, she was an awarded donor of the year for hospitalized veterans.

Survivors include a daughter, Diane Glimes, Russell; six grandchildren, James Rosenberg and husband, Santiago Gonzalez, Michael Rosenberg, John Cole and wife, Sheryl, Roschelle Lane, Sherry Lynn Alvarez and husband, Chris, Charles Glimes and wife, Foteni; four great-grandchildren, Stephani and Mandy Kinzie, Sheri Cole and Ashley Forde; five great-great-grandchildren, Alison and Michael Fiehler, Nicholas Glimes, Sharmaigne and Abel Kinzie; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Glimes; and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles E. Glimes; a daughter, Sharon Glimes; a son, Michael Glimes; and a granddaughter, Rondasue Nehlson.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.

A vigil will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by a VFW Ladies Auxiliary service and a joint rosary with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Daughters of Isabella, all at the funeral chapel.
