George Nelson Crawford III, 46, Ellis, died Friday, June 29, 2018, in Ellis.
He was born March 11, 1972, in WaKeeney to George and Joyce (Sekavec) Crawford Jr. He was a 1990 graduate of Ellis High School.
He married Alyssa (Nelson) on Nov. 11, 2011, in Ellis. He was a heavy equipment operator for Trego County Road and Bridge Department. He served his country in Operation Desert Storm as a U.S. Marine attaining the rank of Sergeant.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He served on parish council, St. Mary School council and taught CCD classes. He was a Third degree member of the Ellis Knights of Columbus, and a charter member of the E.A. Schumacher Marine Corps League No. 740 in Hays.
He was an avid baseball fan of the Kansas City Royals and enjoyed youth baseball as a fan and as a coach. Faith, family and friends were of utmost important.
Survivors include his wife, Ellis; three sons, George IV, Daniel and William Crawford, all of Ellis; four daughters, Samantha, Clara, Mali and Maja Crawford, all of Ellis; his mother, rural Ellis; two sisters, Rebecca Crawford, Russell and Laura Pechanec and husband, Kurt, Rush Center.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis; burial will follow with military honors by Ellis Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard and Hays VFW Honor Guard Rifle Squad.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with a combined Knights of Columbus rosary and vigil at 7:30 p.m., all at the church.
