Gilbert H. "Gib" Deutscher, 90, Ellis, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, at his home.
He was born May 13, 1928, north of Ellis to John and Clara (Huber) Deutscher. He was a 1946 graduate of Ellis High School.
He married Karen King on Oct. 15, 1950, in Ellis. He was a farmer, rancher and owner of Deutscher Construction. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Korea.
He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, Ellis Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had served as an Ellis City Council member, on the boards at the Ellis Credit Union and the Golden Belt Co-op.
He enjoyed working, fishing, hunting, gardening and his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Ellis; a son, Sid Deutscher, Ellis; two daughters, Susie Bieker and husband, Jerry, Thornton, Colo. and Sylvia Deutscher, Ellis; four grandchildren, Riley Deutscher and wife, Amber, Jared Deutscher, and Bailey Dinkel and husband, Matt, all of Ellis and Terry Gross, Ellinwood; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, John, Carl, Norbert, Clarence and Arthur Deutscher and two sisters, Helen Schoenthaler and Melanie Bunker.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church , Ellis; burial in Mount Hope Cemetery with military honors courtesy of the Kansas National Guard and Ellis VFW.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday, both at the church. A prayer service will be 7 p.m. Monday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church, Hospice at HaysMed or Ellis VFW.
