Fred Everett Slaughter, 87, Ellis, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, on the family farm near Ellis.
He was born Jan. 2, 1931, in Ellis to Fred and Flossie (Beach) Slaughter.
He married Audrey E. Slaughter on Sept. 10, 1957, in Alma, Neb. Together, they shared 40 years of marriage until she preceded him in death May 2, 1998. He was a lifelong farmer in rural Ellis County and spent time as a custom harvester and in the oil fields. He was a U.S. Marine veteran. He was a member of the Ellis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9139.
He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and to farm.
Survivors include a son, Dean Slaughter and wife, Sandi, Ellis; three daughters, Brenda Slaughter, Ellis, Cara Slaughter, Hays, and Alane Slaughter Jamestown; a sister, Delores Gruen, Lenexa; four grandchildren, Jeremy (Lynette Kuhn), John, Michael and Jasmine; six great-grandchildren, Lane, Audree, Sean, Kamryn, Savannah and Austin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Beulah, Betty, Bernice and Dorothy; and two brothers, Raymond and Dale.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis, KS 67637; burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis with military honors by Ellis VFW Post No. 9139 .
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, both at the funeral chapel.
