Betty Jane Bittel, 88, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018, at Logan Manor.

She was born Oct. 20, 1930, near Hanover to Joseph West and Anna Marie (Moravek) Jandera. She was raised in Hanover, attended grade schools in Hanover, Goodland, Hill City, Oberlin and Downs before her family settled in Logan. She was a 1948 graduate of Logan High School.

She married Alvin Walter Bittel on Aug. 4, 1954, in Logan. He preceded her in death June 27, 1969. She started working for D. G. Hansen Trust right out of high school. She was the personal secretary for Dane Hansen and then Dane Bales until her retirement in 2013.

She enjoyed traveling, quilting, collecting toothpick holders, tumble-ups, Czechoslovakian glassware and riding the motorcycle with her friend Eldon Gilbert. She enjoyed being with her family and spent many hours researching her parents family history and genealogy.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay Biery, Hays; a granddaughter, Jennifer Biery, Madison, Wis.; a brother, Jerrold Jandera and wife, Wanda, Logan; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a stillborn son, Kevin, on April 13, 1962; a son-in-law, Neil Biery; an infant brother, Joeseph Jandera Jr.; and a sister, Loretta Becker.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Catholic Church, Logan; burial in Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from noon to 9 p.m. Monday with family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m., both at the funeral home.

A scriptural wake and rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Logan Manor Nursing Home or St. John Catholic Church, in care of the funeral home.
