Anne Christine (Kelly) Walters, 69, Hays, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018, at Via Christi Village in Hays.

She was born Sept. 18, 1949, in Detroit, Mich., to John Lawrence Kelly and Dorothy Jeanne (Peters) Kelly. She was a 1967 graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School and received a nursing degree from Avila College in Kansas City.

After being employed at General Hospital and Menorah Medical Center in Kansas City she entered medical school at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. She interned at Truman Medical Center.

She (Dr. Chris by her patients) moved to Hays in 1982 and joined Surgical Associates. She married Jim Walters on May 29, 1987. She started a medical/surgical practice specifically for the disease of the breast. Her patients frequently called themselves “Kelly Girls”. She devoted herself to her faith, family and patients. She retired in 2010 due to Alzheimers Disease.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she also served on church council, cancer council and multiple medical organizations.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; two daughters, Jamie Walters, Kansas City, and Jackie Hertel and husband, Matt, San Diego; a stepson, Jason Walters and wife, Kerri, and their daughter, Natalie, all of Eules, Texas; a sister, Barb Kelly, Kansas City; a brother-in-law, Herb Walters, Hays; three sisters-in-law, Janet Kelly and son, Jack, Wentsville, Mo. Karen Dreher and husband, Ron, Hays and Marie Shields, St. John; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1965; her mother in 1997; and a brother, John in 2014.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 to 10:30 a.m., both at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601. 

A rosary will be at 7 p.m., followed by a vigil, both at the funeral chapel. 

Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Association, Holy Family Elementary School or Thomas More Prep-Marian in care of the funeral home.
