Johnny Mac Showalter, 65, McCracken, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at his home.

He was born Oct. 29, 1953, in La Crosse to Kenneth and Goldie (Higgins) Showalter. He attended McCracken High School.

He married Diane McFarren on July 15, 1978, in McCracken. He worked for the Deines Corp. and Fritzler Trucking, Rush County Landfill, two trash services, many area farmers including Showalter and Sons, and most recently drove a dump truck for Black Dog.

He was member of the St. Mary Catholic Church, McCracken. He was active in the McCracken community and helped with the community dinners and fundraising.

Survivors include a son, Jason Showalter and wife, Jessica, La Crosse; a daughter, Amanda Showalter, El Dorado; his former wife, Diane McFarren, La Crosse; two brothers, Kenneth Richard “Froggy” Showalter, McCracken, and Terry Showalter and wife, Helen, La Crosse; a sister, Helena McGaughey and husband, Rob, McCracken; seven grandchildren, Havyn, Shaili, Taybree and Ryker Showalter, all of La Crosse, and Rianne, Kyson and Terren Showalter, all of El Dorado; a great-grandchild, Jayde Yergey, El Dorado; two nephews, Aaron “Spanky” McGaughey, and wife, Lesley, La Crosse, and Austin McGaughey and fiancé, Marcus Allen, McCracken; a niece, Ashley Gonzales and husband, Richard, Stanton, Texas; his great-niece and nephews, Lillian and Jackson McGaughey, La Crosse, and Roman Gonzales, Stanton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, McCracken.

Viewing will be from 9 4 p.m. Monday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City and at the church prior to the services.

A rosary/vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday with family present at the church.

Memorials are suggested to The Johnny Mac Funeral Fund, McCracken American Legion Post No. 59 and the McCracken Country Club “McCracken Golf Course” in care of the funeral home.
