Martha Marie (Keller) Armbrister, 95. died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, at Good Samaritan Society, Ellis.
She was born June 8, 1923, in rural Trego County to Frank and Carrie (Wendling) Keller. She was a 1942 graduate of Ellis High School.
After graduation, she worked as a clerk at the local grocery store. She married Joseph Armbrister on Nov. 1, 1945, at St. John Luthern Church. He preceded her in death Nov. 26, 1983. Together, they operated a farm and ranch northeast of Ellis.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, rural Ellis. She was active in the Ladies Auxiliary at the Veterans of Foreign Wars for many years as well as in Ellis High School alumni activities.
While they lived on the farm, she enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking and baking for her family. In 1977, they retired from farming and moved into Ellis. She also devoted a considerable amount of time to taking care of her mother, Carrie, with whom she remained close. They spent countless hours on a remodeling project of the kitchen at St. John’s. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, singing in her church choir, and participating in the ladies quilting organization at St. John’s. She was best known for her baking, cooking and canning abilities. Her specialties were strudel, hemmitschwengers, chicken, gravy, and dill pickles. She entered an assisted living facility in Hays in 2007, and moved into Good Samaritan in October 2012.
Survivors include a son, Wayne, Burlington, Colo.; a daughter, Donna Benoit and husband, Tom, Damar, a sister, Minnie Keller, Ellis; her grandchildren, Jonathan Armbrister, St. Louis, Mo., Jennifer (Jason) Stallman, Hutchinson, Matthew (Becky) Benoit, Damar, Haley (Jeff) Gonzales, Monte Vista, Colo., Molly Armbrister, Denver, Rebecca Benoit, Wichita, and Randall Benoit, Palco; her great-grandchildren, Emmie and Madalyn Stallman, Hutchinson, Tyler and Sophia Armbrister, St. Louis, Brooke and Ryan Benoit, Damar, and Hannah Leiker, Casper, Wyo,; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her children, Wilma, Jeanette, Darrell and Jean, and husband, Joe; her parents; two brothers, Oscar and Arthur; three sisters, Freda, Irene and Helen; and two daughters-in-law, Terry and Kimberly.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church, Ellis; burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E 17th, Ellis, KS 67637 and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.
