Johanna “Jo” M. Hauptman, 90, Hays, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2019, at Hays Medical Center. She had resided at Via Christi Village in Hays.
She was born Oct. 23, 1928, in St. Marks to Bernard “Ben” and Anna (Zoglman) Landwehr. She was raised on a farm near Fredonia.
She married Emil Hauptman on May 1, 1954. She was a homemaker and worked as a florist.
She enjoyed working as a Foster Grandparent at Wilson and Roosevelt Elementary Schools. She spent most of her adulthood in Lyons.
She enjoyed people, socializing, volunteering and helping others. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed bingo, playing cards and doing crafts to make gifts for her family.
Survivors include three sons, Greg Hauptman and wife, Doreen, Murdo, S.D., Mark Hauptman and wife, Jeanne, Hays, and Mike Hauptman and wife, Lisa, Topeka; a sister, Jean Liebman, Washington State; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Martina Watts, Bertha Breazeale, Elenora Lane, Alice Powers; and four brothers, Robert, Edward, Leo and Leonard “Lenny” Landwehr.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Via Christi Village, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.
A rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, followed by a vigil at the funeral chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Via Christi Village-Hays, designated to the Activities Fund, in care of the funeral home.
