Donald Eugene Chegwidden, 82, Russell, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

He was born May 31, 1936, in Hays to Harley and Charlotte (Marsh) Chegwidden. He was a graduate of Bunker Hill High School and graduated from Fort Hays State University with a degree in biology.

He married Julia Rae Rogg on June 21, 1958, in Bunker Hill. He was a biology teacher at Russell High School for 37 years.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, of the home; two daughters, Connie Kelley and Suzanne Matthias, both of Wichita; a brother, Dan Chegwidden, East Lansing, Mich.; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell; burial in Russell City Cemetery. Masonic services will be conducted by the Russell Masonic Lodge.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Thursday with family present to greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Children in care of the mortuary.
