Judith Lynn “Judy” (Anderson) Kemp, 73, died Wednesday, March 13, 2019.

She was born Nov. 17, 1945, in Hays to Hazel and Robert Anderson. She was a 1963 graduate of Hays High School. While growing up in Hays, she was involved in high school musicals and competition baton twirling. She was the 1962 Kansas for World Peace queen and competed in several other pageants while growing up in Hays. After high school, she obtained a degree in elementary education from Fort Hays State University.

She married William “Bill” Kemp in 1967. They moved to Kansas City, Mo., where both began working for the Hickman Mills School district as elementary school teachers and spent their entire careers with the district before they retired in 2001. She taught kindergarten most of her career. She took great pride in teaching her students to read. After retirement they traveled the world together, fulfilling lifelong dreams of seeing distant countries and experiencing different cultures.

Survivors include two sons, Dustin Kemp and wife, Keri, and Casey, Grandview Mo.; a daughter, Laurie Cox and husband, Craig; a sister, Karen Johnson, Leawood; four grandchildren, Reid Fehr, Kylie and Trent, Topeka, and Isla, Birmingham Ala.; and nieces, nephews, and their families.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Longview Funeral Home and Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Saturday with a reception to follow at RCs in Martin City, Mo.
