Roy David Keller, Jr., 87, WaKeeney, died Wednesday, May 22, 2019.
He was born July 11, 1931, in Humboldt to Roy David and Florence Helen (Yandle) Keller. He was a 1949 graduate of Humboldt High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran since March of 1951. Following an honorable discharge from the Navy, he received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Pittsburg State University and an education specialist degree from Fort Hays State University.
He married Martha Joan Campbell on Dec. 6, 1950. He was a school superintendent for USD 208 for 23 years, retiring in 1990.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jim Keller, Hays, and John Keller, Lawrence; two daughters, Roanne Stein, Salina, and Cheryl Deines, WaKeeney; a brother, Paul Keller, Broken Arrow, Okla.; a sister, Sharon Eshelman, Newton; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren plus one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, WaKeeney; burial will be at 1 p.m. in Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery, WaKeeney with full military honors.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.
