James Lee Gabel, 78, died Monday, July 1, 2019, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born June 22, 1941, in Ness City to Isidore and Josephine (Stecklein) Gabel.

He married Sharon Meyer on Jan. 14, 1961, in Dodge City. He was a electrician.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Church.

He was an avid sports fan especially when the Kansas Jayhawks were playing and was interested in watching politics on TV.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lori Kisslinger and husband, Harold, Ransom; three sons, Scott Gabel, Wichita, Mark Gabel and wife, Becky, Larned, and Brad Gabel and wife, Katie, Jenks, Okla.; a sister, Betty Slaven, Dodge City; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Gabel, Dodge City; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and a brother.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Church, Ness City; burial in Bazine Cemetery.

Friends can call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City.
