Joseph Stegman Jr., 85, Hays, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019, at Park West Plaza – Legend Senior Living, Wichita.

He was born July 8, 1934, northeast of Ness City to Joseph and Regina Jacobs Stegman. He was a 1952 graduate of Ness City High School and Fort Hays State University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

He married Marjorie Ann Jones on Dec. 28, 1957, in Hays. She preceded him in death Oct. 27, 2015. He served as a teacher and administrator for 37 years at USD 241 Sharon Springs. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.

He was a former member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Sharon Springs, and Kansas State Teachers Association. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Legion, and Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Stegman and wife, Marcie, Trenton, Mo., and Daryl Stegman and wife, Laura, Spearville; two daughters, Theresa Endsley, Lawrence, and Carolyn Mason and husband, Dennis, Goddard; a brother: Dennis Stegman and wife, Kay, Elkhorn, Neb.; sisters, Thelma Fehrenbach, Ness City, Lillian Brown, Salina, and Venita Stoecklein and husband, James, Hutchinson; 10 grandchildren, Brandon Endsley and wife, Anya, Rachael Endsley, Jessica Stegman, Katie Stegman Rice and husband, Brad, Jason McNeal, Alex McNeal and wife, MaryAnne, Megan Stegman, Heidi Stegman, Joseph Stegman, and Austin Mason; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Vivian and Sylvia; two brothers-in-law, Otto Fehrenbach and Vernon Brown; and two sons-in-law, Mitchell Endsley and Scott McNeal.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors rendered by members of the Hays VFW Post No. 9076.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, both at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.

A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Memorials are suggested to Sharon Springs Grade School – Wallace County USD 241, in care of the funeral chapel.
