Loree M. Riggs, 97, Hays, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019, at Hays Medical Center.

She was born Dec. 26, 1921, south of Stockton to Lester and Lydia (Borin) Maddy. She was a 1939 graduate of Stockton High School and attended Fort Hays State University.

She married Donald H. “Don” Riggs on June 30, 1940. They celebrated over 63 years of marriage before he preceded her in death Sept. 10, 2003. She was a sales associate for J.C. Penney, retiring after 38 years with the company.

She was a member of North Oak Community Church, Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, and attended FHSU Encore performances. She was a beautiful pianist and often played for the Rotary Club.

She enjoyed playing pinochle and bridge and would play duplicate bridge with her husband.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda O’Connor, Hays; a daughter-in-law, Terri Riggs, Hays; a sister, Joan Balderston, Stockton; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard “Dick” Riggs; a daughter, Donna Medina; and two sisters, Lillian Lawson and Naomi Green.

A celebration of life will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at North Oak Community Church; burial in Stockton City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. until time of Friday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, Hays, KS 67601.
