Betty Joan Flax, 84, Dodge City, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019, at Brookdale Senior Living, Dodge City.

She was born Dec. 27, 1934, in Hays to Michael and Clara (Nemechek) Hoffman.

She married Lawrence Flax on Aug. 5, 1960, in Victoria. He preceded her in death Sept. 20, 2015.

She was a member of Cathedral of our Lady of Guadalupe.

She enjoyed cooking, putting together puzzles and spending time with her grandkids.

Survivors include a son, Godfrey Flax and wife, Lashaina, Dodge City; three brothers, Mike Hoffman, Garden City, Frank Hoffman, Victoria, and Dan Hoffman, Hays; three sisters, Aggie Geir, Garden City, Magie Driling, Denver, and Rita Friess, Spearville; six grandchildren, Kendra Flax, Brittany Flax, Daytona Flax, Justice Flax, KaBrena Alexander and Ecco Keener; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lawrence Flax Jr.; five brothers, Fred Dinkle, Joe, Bob, Tony and Steve Hoffman; two sisters, Clementine Dinkel and Helen Kreitzor; and a great-grandson, Brantley Alexander.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Cathedral of our Lady of Guadalupe; burial in Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City.   

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. 

A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Prairie in care of the funeral chapel.
