James Lawrence Newton, 79, Ellis, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019, at his home.
He was born Oct. 12, 1940, in Stafford to Ralph Newton and Belva (Bealby) Newton. He was a graduate of Codell High School.
He married Elizabeth A. Schuster on June 11, 1966, in Ellis. He worked in the oilfield a majority of his life.
He was an avid KU Jayhawks fan, NASCAR fanatic, and enjoyed anything on television.
Survivors include his wife, Ellis; three sons, Randy Newton and Eric Newton, both of Hays, and Ryan Newton, Wichita; a daughter, Pamela, Ellis; and his pet dog, Jack.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepfather, Robert Vonfeldt; a half sister, Carla (Vonfeldt) Detherage; and a niece, Lori Francis.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis; burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Keithley Funeral Chapel, Ellis.
A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice – Hays Medical Center, Cancer Council of Ellis County, or St. Mary Church, in care of the funeral chapel.
