Helen M. Stos, 95, Olmitz, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington.
She was born Jan. 26, 1924, to Antone and Eleanor (Mauler) Budig.
She married Leonard Valentine Stos on May 18, 1943, in Great Bend. She was a farmer’s wife, helping on the family farm alongside her husband until he preceded her in death March 15, 2001.
She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and Altar Society.
She was skilled in woodworking, building closets for her home, and refinishing wood furniture. She enjoyed all types of crafts, she could crochet, sew, decoupage, and needlepoint on plastic canvas. She was an excellent baker, making many wedding cakes and birthday cakes. She had a passion for raising white German shepherds and black toy poodles.
Survivors include her three sons, Leonard “Butch” Stos and wife, Kim, Otis, Randy Stos and wife, Heather, Hoisington, and Tim Stos and wife, Lynnette, Olmitz; two daughters, Karolyn Schaffer and husband, Charles, La Crosse, and Debra Stos, Newton; a brother, Bernard “Barney” Budig, Antcock, Calif.; three sisters, Katherine McGrath, Pleasanthill, Calif., Lenora Hutton, Derby, and Beatrice Axman, Olmitz; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Arthur, Richard, and Eugene Budig; and two sisters, Irene Sanders and Esther Saling.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Ann Catholic Church, Olmitz; burial in St. Ann Catholic Cemetery, Olmitz.
Friends can call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington.
Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church. A vigil/rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Memorials may be made to St. Ann Catholic Church or Kindred Hospice in care of the funeral home.
