Florentine Rita Schuckman, 99, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019, at the Andover Life Care Center. She was born Sept. 19, 1920, in Ness City to Peter Leiker and Agatha (Unrein) Leiker. She was a 1939 graduate of McCracken High School.
She married Michael Schuckman on July 22, 1950 in Ransom. He preceded her in death. After graduation she worked in the aircraft industry in Wichita during Word War II and as a hairdresser in Colorado Springs, Colo. After marriage she managed her home near McCracken, became a skilled seamstress sewing her family’s clothes, cooked some of the best meals ever eaten and made sure everyone’s needs were taken care of and asking nothing in return for herself.
She was a member of the McCracken Altar Society and the Hays Eagles. Her greatest joys in life were her family, especially her grand and great-grandchildren. She had the most happy and optimistic outlook on life, no matter what challenge she faced, and was focused on deepening her relationship with God.
Survivors include two sons, Myron and wife, Debi, and Gary; a daughter, Debra, and husband, Mark; a stepdaughter, Pauletta Winn and husband, Kirk, Bartlesville, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Robert, Celestine, Severin and Wendelin; and four sisters, Filomina, Mary, Armella and Angeline.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St Mary Heritage Church, McCracken, with a luncheon following at McCracken Community Center.
Memorials are suggested to Good Shepard Hospice-Wichita or McCracken Community Center-Floor Replacement.
