Clara K. Suppes, 93, Hays, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2019, at Bethany Home in Lindsborg.
She was born Sept. 6, 1926, in St. Peter to John and Mary (Rohleder) Gerstner. She was a 1945 graduate of Collyer High School.
She married Wendelin J. Suppes on April 28, 1947. They celebrated over 52 years of marriage before he preceded her in death Dec. 4, 1999.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and lifetime member of Daughters of Isabella. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and retired from Walmart after working as a cashier for eight years.
She was an amazing seamstress, baked delicious cinnamon rolls and chocolate pies, was very sociable and never knew a stranger. She was kind, compassionate, very giving, hard-working and a selfless provider. She was a devout Catholic, and enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Ann Peterson and husband, Peter, Vancouver, Wash., Geneva Brungardt, Storm Lake, Iowa, and Annette Suppes, Salina; five step-grandsons, Tim Brungardt and wife, Lynn, Jerry Brungardt and wife, Jennifer, Mike Brungardt and wife, Cathy, Tom Brungardt, Jim Brungardt and wife, Jenny, and their families.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jerry Brungardt; and three grandchildren, Gwen, Katie and Tony.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, Hays, KS 67601.
A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6 p.m., followed by a vigil at 6:30 p.m. conducted by Bishop John Brungardt of the Diocese of Dodge City, all at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Clara Suppes family for favorite charities in care of the funeral home.
