Rita Marie (Geist) Cassatt, 88, Hays, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019, in Hays.
She was born April 14, 1931, in Victoria to Jacob James and Aloyisa Louise (Koerner) Geist.
She married Donovan Emil Cassatt on March 27, 1951, in Victoria. He preceded her in death May 9, 2015.
She worked in food preparation and as a para at various local schools. She volunteered at the ARC Thrift Store in Hays and Save N Share in McPherson.
She enjoyed playing bridge, sewing and fishing.
She attended St. Nicholas of Myra Church in Hays.
Survivors include four daughters, Janet Jones, Tucson, Ariz., Deborah Reece and husband, Ed, Farmington, N.M., Tamara Streit and husband, Victor, Salina, and Donna Ward and husband, Dave, Hays; nine grandchildren, Bryan Jones and wife, Yuka Matsugu, Derrick Jones, Joshua Cassatt and wife, Ali, Levi Reece and wife, Trisha, Christopher Reece, Austin Streit, Jenna Miller and husband, Chris, Tara Gillespie and husband, Aaron, and Jaclynn Ward; six great-grandchildren, Beatrice Cassatt, Alex Miller, Evelyn Miller, Jackson Gillespie, Greyson Gillespie and Mila Jones; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Matthew Thomas Ward; two infant brothers, John and Robert Geist; three brothers, Eugene, Rudolph and Wilfred Geist; an infant sister, Eleanor Geist; and six sisters, Josephine Weigel, Martina Pfeifer, Felicitas Malsom, Eleanor Schmeidler, Melosyna Stecklein and Rosalina Schmidt.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria; inurnment in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday with a combined vigil/rosary at 7 p.m. , both at The Basilica.
