Twila Mae Carter, 86, Russell, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2019, at University Of Kansas Health System, Kansas City, Kan.

She was born April 20, 1933, in Russell to Pete and Teresa (Wittman) Vonfeldt. She was a 1951 graduate of Russell High School and received an associates degree from Brown Mackie College in Salina.

She married Ernest L. Carter on April 18, 1953, in Salina. He preceded her in death April 11, 2014. She worked at Social Security administration for over 18 years, prior to retirement in 1996.

Survivors include three sons, Barry Carter, Jim Carter and Mark Carter, all of Russell; two daughters, Debbie Beck and Tamera Carter, both of Topeka; a brother, Don Vonfeldt, Russell; a sister, Shirley Bellinder, Topeka; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Russell.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell.

A vigil/rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Daughters of Isabella in care of the mortuary.
