Norma Louise Hayes, 96, Ellsworth, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society, Ellsworth.

She was born Nov. 12, 1923, in Stockton to Ira and Charlotte (Bird) Hazen.

She married John Ward Hayes in Mankato on Sept. 26, 1948. They were married 47 years until his death in 1993. She and her husband farmed and ranched until their retirement in 1989. During these years, she sewed and cooked for her family, drove a truck during wheat harvest, worked as head cook at USD 269 Palco, and baked and decorated wedding cakes.

She was a member of Ogallah Christian Church, Ogallah; Red Line Church God, Palco; and First United Methodist Church, Ellsworth.

She is survived by her children, Dan Hayes and wife, Marcia, Smithville, Mo., Kathy Francisco and husband, Jerry, Fort Worth, Texas, Doug Hayes and wife, Tadhi, Amarillo, Texas, Steve Hayes and wife, Peggy, Stafford, Greg Hayes and wife, Brynda, Ellsworth, and Mark Hayes and wife, Debbie, El Dorado; 17 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers Duane and Sherman; sisters Mary Ruth and Myrtle Maxine; and grandson, Glen Hayes.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Ellsworth; burial at 3 p.m. Friday at the Moreland Township Cemetery in Graham County.
