Alan Helget, 72, Hays, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020, at Hays Medical Center.
He was born March 17, 1947, in Hays to Andrew and Sophie (Hammerschmidt) Helget. He was a 1965 graduate of Hays High School.
He married Janice (Rome) Helget on Dec. 28, 1970, in Victoria. He served in the U.S. Navy for 13 years. He retired from Fort Hays State University Grounds Department in 2009 after 25 years.
He enjoyed his Corvette and was an avid animal lover.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two daughters, Shannon Weber and husband, Rod, St. George, and Stacy Budig and companion, Aaron Pflaum, Hays; two sisters, Dorothy Waldschmidt, Ellis, and Delores Dreiling, Hays; three grandchildren, Ryan Weber and wife, Brittany, Auburn, Brandon Weber, Manhattan and Morgan Budig, Hays; and a great-grandchild, Riley Weber.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Janie Urban.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Home and Crematory, 2509 Vine, KS 67601; inurnment in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be 10 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
A Veterans of Foreign Wars rosary will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
