Sylvester Anthony Bange, 88, Colby, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020, at Prairie Senior Living Complex, Colby. He was born July 24, 1931, in rural Thomas County, to Joseph and Anna (Schwarz) Bange. He was a 1948 graduate of Hoxie High School.

He married Rosemary Rehmer on Sept. 26, 1970. She preceded him in death. He farmed and ranched for many years near Menlo and worked at Walmart in Colby as a people greeter from 2005 to January 2019.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1953 to 1955.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Colby and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2647. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 363 and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

Survivors include a son, Christopher and wife, Vicky, Rexford; four grandchildren, Rebecca Butler and husband, Jonathan, Clayton Bange, Hannah Bange and Jordyn Bange; and two great-grandchildren, Harper Ann and Jaxon Dean; a brother, Edward Bange, Garden City; two sisters, Rosella Meitl, Oberlin, and Mildred Hill and husband, Dennis, Great Bend; and a brother-in-law, Al Rietcheck, Hoxie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Vincent and Raymond Bange; two sisters, Agnes Bange and Barbara Rietcheck; a sister-in-law, Frances Bange; and a brother-in-law, Walter Meitl.

Services were Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby; burial in the church cemetery.
