Marcheta M. (Betz) Hogsett, 91, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, at Ness County Hospital.

She was born July 5, 1928, in Rush County to Jacob and Anna Betz. She attended Harold School and earned her GED.

She married Leonard Vern Hogsett on Nov. 27, 1949, in Ness City. They were married for 62 years before he preceded her in death July 26, 2012. She worked a variety of small jobs, but her favorite was driving truck with her husband during harvest until they retired after 47 years. They were members of Kansas Old Time Fiddlers, Pickers, and Singers and played music all over Kansas.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ness City. She was also a member of the Women’s American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Schluck and husband, David, Nassau, Delaware, Marilyn Misner and husband, Steve, Edmond, Okla.; a son, Larry Hogsett and wife, Tammy, Lawrence; six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, Eddie, Howard, Clifton, Harold, Merle, Jake Jr., and Donnie; two sisters, Marchtella Stegman and Marjorie Thomas; and a step-granddaughter.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Ness City; burial in Ness City Cemetery.

Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City.

Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church or Ness City Bank Building, in care of the funeral home.
