Tom Nelson Cross, 91, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2020.
He was born Oct. 2, 1928, near Belle Plaine to Thomas and Juanita (Nelson) Cross. He was a 1951 graduate on Oct. 2, 1928. He played football in high school and later at Panhandle A&M in Goodwell, Okla., where he graduated in 1951.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and chose to be in the 82nd airborne division. Following his service, he started his football and track career for 38 years.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, June (Berry) Cross; a daughter, Shari (Cross) Abbott; two brothers, Gail Cross and Harold Dick Cross; a sister, Betty Reiley; four grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kurt Cross.
Services will be at 10:45 a.m. Friday at College Church of the Nazarene, Olathe; burial in Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:45 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Tom Cross Scholarship Fund established at Mid-America Nazarene University, given each year to an athlete in the strength and conditioning program.
