Douglas R. Petersilie, 71, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020, at his home in Ness County.


He was born Dec. 20, 1948, in Dodge City to Ray and Martina (Lang) Petersilie. He was a 1967 graduate of Ness High School. He attended one year at Garden City Community College, and transferred to Fort Hays State University where he was a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity.


He married Jeanie Shank on Dec. 31, 1972. After graduating from FHSU they moved to his family’s farm in southern Ness County. He was lifetime farmer/stockman.


He served his community on various boards and for a few years as an EMS responder. He was an Army Reserves veteran, serving for six years.


Survivors include his wife; three children and their spouses and seven grandchildren, Jared and Erin Petersilie, Ethan and Jadyn, La Crosse; Travis and Laurie Petersilie, Emma, Isabel, and Aubrey, Ness City; and Kalyn and Kyle Newman, Koby and Kade, Ringwood, Okla.


He was preceded in death by his parents.


Services will at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Ness City; burial in the Ness City Cemetery.


Friends can call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City.
