Patricia Ann “Pat” Schlyer, 62, Hays, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020, at Hays Medical Center.


She was born Feb. 21, 1957, in Salina to Thomas J. “Tom” and Maxine (Horn) Ziegler. She was a 1975 graduate of Hays High School. She earned bachelor’s degrees in music and mathematics from Fort Hays State University.


She married Daniel Joseph “Danny” Schlyer on June 22, 1979, in Hays and they celebrated over 27 years of marriage before he preceded her in death Feb. 18, 2007. She was a mathematics teacher at Rexford High School and part-time at Victoria High School, owner and operator of Club Three, and the office manager at Hays Chevrolet. She managed the concession stand at the softball park in Hays and organized the Hays Dart League and Fantasy Football League.


She was a member of the Hays Symphony Orchestra.


She enjoyed going to the Breeder’s Cup, playing in Texas Hold’em tournaments, watching all sports, and was a Denver Broncos and Detroit Tigers fan. She enjoyed quilting, tutoring students, contributing to Learning Quest for her nieces, nephews, and friends, and loved her family.


Survivors include her mother, Hays; a brother, David Ziegler and wife, Beth, Hays; two sisters, Diana Peters and husband, Dennis, Topeka, and Karen Gannon and husband, Chuck, Omaha, Neb.; two brothers-in-law, Brad Schlyer and Benjy Schlyer, both of Topeka; a sister-in-law, Amy Schlyer, Topeka; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her father.


Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church; inurnment in St. Joseph Cemetery.


Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, Hays, KS 67601, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the church.


A vigil will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
