Leonard Duane Wertz, 79, Quinter, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2020, at Gove County Medical Center.
He was born on June 14, 1940, in Las Animas, Colo., to Richard and Pearl Wertz.
He was a graduate of McClave High School, and received a biology degree with minors in music and horticulture from Colorado State University.
He married Ronda Hostetler on Sept. 23, 1967. Over the years he was a biology teacher, florist, chemist, sales rep, and finally served as a paraeducator in the Quinter public schools.
Survivors include his wife, Quinter; sons, Brad and Todd; three siblings, Etta Clayton, Ivan Wertz, and Wanda Lutz; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Quinter Church of the Brethren, with burial to follow at Baker Township cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter.
Memorials are suggested to the Dunkard Brethren Retreat, in care of the funeral home.
