Mabel J. (Dechant) Riedel, 86, Walker, died Friday, March 13, 2020, at Hays Medical Center.


She was born Nov. 29, 1933, in Hays to Joseph and Anna (Speier) Dechant. She grew up in Antonino and Hays, and was a graduate of Girls Catholic High in Hays.


She married Francis J. “Frank” Riedel on Sept. 3, 1955, in Hays. He preceded her in death Dec. 4, 2016. She was a homemaker and a certified nurse aide at St. John’s Rest Home, Victoria, and Cedar View Care Center, Hays.


She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and St. Ann Christian Mothers, both of Walker, and Daughters of Isabella and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, both of Victoria.


She enjoyed traveling, reading and was active in parish work.


Survivors include two sons, Glen Riedel and wife, Tammy, Salina, Terry Riedel and wife, Gina, Walker; two daughters, Donna Burgess and husband, Craig, and Tammy Jacobs and husband, Donovan, all of Hays; a brother, Walter Dechant, Hays; a brother-in-law, Francis King, Denver; nine grandchildren, Kyle Riedel (Renee), Travis Riedel (Annie), Nathan Burgess (Kelsey), Jordan Burgess, Parker Riedel, Layton Riedel, Kinsey Riedel, Jarret Riedel and Connor Jacobs; and six great-grandchildren, Maggie, Roxy and Mason Riedel; Kinley and Kyron Burgess; and Cambri Burgess.


She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, William, Gene, and Richard Dechant; six sisters, Josephine Legleiter, Alice Legleiter, Marcella Zimmerman, Adeline Zimmerman, Eleanor King and Stella VonFeldt.


Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ann Catholic Church, Walker; burial in St. Ann Cemetery, Walker.


Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, both at the church. A vigil and V.F.W. Auxiliary service with rosary by St. Ann Christian Mothers and Victoria Daughters of Isabella will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the church.


Memorials are suggested to St. Ann Catholic Church, Walker.
