LeeRoy Berthold Schuckman, 83, Hays, died Saturday, April 18, 2020, in Hays.
He was born June 13, 1936, in La Crosse to Ludwig and Esther Schaffer Schuckman. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree’s from Fort Hays State University and his specialist degree from the University of Kansas.
He was an educator for 39 years. He taught and was Principal in McCracken, Principal of La Crosse High School and Superintendent/Principal at Almena (Northern Valley). He spent summers cutting wheat on his parents’ farm. Career highlights also include driving a lawn mower across the United States when he was 17 years old, and earning his real-estate license later in life.
He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, dancing and going to the lake.
Survivors include his long time friend, Marge Rome, Victoria; a son, Robin Schuckman and wife, Dotty, Alma; two daughters, Lisa Schuckman-Baus and Penny Schuckman, both of Wichita; a brother, Eddy Schuckman, La Crosse; four grandchildren, Annie Frank (Justin), Brandon Ermey (Amanda), Molly Schuckman, Dakota Schuckman (Colleen); and seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Norma Jean Kirby.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a family graveside service will held April 22, in St. Michaels Cemetery, La Crosse. We invite any who wish to visit the grave to celebrate his life or you may leave comments via Facebook. Once the COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted a public celebration of his life will be announced.
