Helen L. Truan, 90, Gorham, died Sunday, April 26, 2020, at Hays Medical Center.

She was born June 5, 1929, in Great Bend, to Hobert “Hobe” and Alvina (Foster) Haggard. She attended Gorham Grade School, Gorham High School and earned a degree in elementary education from Fort Hays State College.

She married Floyd F. Truan on July 19, 1952, in Dodge City. She was a school teacher in Ellis and Russell Counties, including Bunker Hill, Hope Valley Country School, Mount Brokow Country School, with many years at Gorham Grade School and a total of 39 years teaching. She retired in 1996.

She was a member of Gorham Community Church, helped her husband on the farm, enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; two sons, Kent Truan and wife, Pam, Gorham and Jeff Truan, both of Gorham; a daughter, Sherri Truan, Gorham; a brother, Bob Haggard and wife, Hania, Austin, Texas; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Due to the COVID-19 virus a private family inurnment will be in Winterset Cemetery, south of Gorham. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
