Elvira “Vera” M. Bellendir, 88, Great Bend, died Friday, May 15, 2020, at Medicalodges of Kinsley.
She was born April 29, 1932, in Loretto, to Joe G. and Hildegard "Hilda" M. (Von Feldt) Basgall.
She married Vernon John Bellendir on May 7, 1951, in Loretto. He preceded her in death Aug. 11, 2008. Coming from Russell in 1955, she was the secretary for St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church for over 25 years.
She was a member of the Church and Altar Society.
She enjoyed sewing, cooking, but especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandson.
Survivors include a son, Brian Bellendir and wife, Carol, Great Bend; two daughters, Lynee Habiger and husband, James, Kinsley, and Tracy Ummen and husband, Mark, Springfield, Va.; a sister, Arbutus "Boots" Maltby and husband, Bob, Great Bend; six grandchildren, Audrey Bellendir, Great Bend, Adam Bellendir, Hudson, Megan Bulleigh and husband, Josh, Salina, Clayton Habiger, Memphis, Tenn., Christopher Ummen and wife, Helenna, Reston, Va., and Sarah Ummen, Springfield, Va.; and a great-grandson, Wesley Bulleigh, Salina.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Evan Habiger; and three brothers, Marvin Basgall, Eddie Basgall, and Delbert Basgall.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church; burial in Great Bend Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday with family present to greet friends from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. A private family rosary will be at 7 p.m. and a public live stream will be available at www.bryantfh.net. Memorials are suggested to Prince of Peace Parish in care of the funeral home.
