Donald Lee Kilian, 89, Russell, died Thursday, May 21, 2020, at his home.

He was born April 16, 1931, in Russell to Sam and Alma (Mai) Kilian. He was a 1949 graduate of Russell High School.

He married Mary Ann Weigel on Jan. 13, 1950, in Newkirk, Okla. She preceded him in death in 2005. He was a driver’s license examiner for the State of Kansas, retiring in 1994.

Survivors include his companion of 14 years, Cathy Trapp, three sons, Sam Kilian, Russell, Donald Kilian, Jr., Independence, Mo., and Dwight Kilian, Phoenix; two daughters, Sheila Verbraken, Mesa, Ariz., and Sonya Voorhies, Showlow, Ariz.; two brothers, William “Bill” Kilian and Dennis Kilian, both of Russell; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Russell.

Public visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuar, Russell. Memorials are suggested to Kilian Family Memorial or St John Lutheran Church in care of the mortuary.
