Andrew “Andy” MacGregor Jones, 74, Collyer, died Thursday, May 28, 2020, at Gove County Medical Center as a result of cancer.

He was born Jan. 4, 1946, in Goodland to William David and Geneva (Mac) Evangeline (MacGregor) Jones.

He was a 1964 graduate of Wallace County High School in Sharon Springs. He later attended Lamar Junior College for two years and completed his bachelor’s degree at Kansas State University in 1969.

He married Susan Rondeau in 1970. He later married Sondra Behrends on March 5, 1994, in Grant, Neb. In 1996, they moved south of Collyer and established a cow herd where he fulfilled a lifelong dream of backgrounding his own cattle and feeding cattle for others. He retired from the state in 2006 to work full time with his horses and cattle. He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam conflict, where he served stateside as a veterinary specialist.

Survivors include a brother, David Jones. Sharon Springs; two sisters, Marietta Zimmerman, Timnath, Colo., and Roxie Tucker, Copeland; Susan and their four children, sons, Jarad Jones, Wister, Okla., and Adrian Jones Wellington, Colo.; daughters, Jamie Lerwick, McPherson, and Julie Buzard, Great Bend; Sondra and stepchildren, Jeff Behrends, Grant, Neb., Stephanie Ramsey, Virginia Beach, Va., and Steven Behrends, Chadron, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Studley; burial in Mount Pleasant Baptist Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Mount Pleasant Baptist Youth in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter.
